We’re getting your orders out as soon as we can. Thank you for your continued patience - we truly appreciate it.
The Washington Post mentioned our tiny business and we’ve been flooded with orders. While we are grateful for the attention, we are also overwhelmed. We are not Amazon Prime, but simply a mom and two teenagers. Sustainabar is our labor of love - something we do after high school and a full-time job to help address the climate crisis. Each bar is handmade and hand-packed. It’s time-consuming.
If an item is sold out, please sign up for the item’s waitlist (on the product page) and you’ll be notified when it’s back in stock.
There may be a lag on receiving your order. You may find you received a different colored dish sponge than the one you ordered. We hope you’re okay with that. We appreciate your support of our mission and hope you enjoy your bars.
Much 💚, the Sustainabar crew
The Guardian asked me to write about the lethal rains hammering California after 20 years of drought. With a nod to one of my favorite films, Lars Von Trier's "Melancholia."
✨HAPPY NEW YEAR!✨

DRUMROLL PLEASE … 2022 GRAND TALLY
We totaled up the number of bars we sold in 2022 over our website and through our six local retailers.
The grand total was 3,025 bars — replacing 6,050 single-use plastic bottles. (Each bar lasts twice as long a bottled product). Thank you for your continued support! 💕
Our most popular item? The Sustainabar Starter Pack!
We’re thrilled to announce that we’re going ORGANIC! We found an affordable local supplier of organic oils and butters and will be transitioning to organic ingredients this year.
New and improved! We’ve updated our lotion bar recipe to make it easier to glide on the skin. The new recipe contains skin-loving avocado oil and quick-absorbing mango butter. Scented in lavender essential oil or honey fragrance oil. These are fabulous to smooth over chapped hands and dried feet; pair with our handy metal tin to keep your lotion bar lint-free!
Over the holidays, we did bit of experimenting with herbal colorants. The soap below was made with a mixture of plant infusions: Alkanet, Rhubarb, Indigo and Marigold. The colors came out super-saturated, reminding us of an old super hero comic book. 🦸♀️ These are scented with a blend of lavender, pine and fir needle essential oils that call to mind a hike through a high mountain meadow. (Available next month!)
Herbal infusions require heating the plant powders in an olive oil for several hours, to infuse the oil with the colors. The colors are poured in individual layers.

We’re thrilled to have our bars sold in Fillgood.co — our sixth retail store! Fillgood is an adorable refillery on Solano Ave. in Berkeley, in the heart of the Solano shopping district.
You can find our dish soap, lip balms and goat milk soap there!
Please note, our conditioner bars are now square! To better distinguish them from our shampoo bars. : )
Sustainabar is is now a certified Green Business!
We didn’t have to jump through many hoops to make the requirements, as we run a pretty low-waste operation already.
But here are some of the adjustments we made:
Switching to non-toxic cleaning products
Installing energy efficient lighting
Sourcing recycled content products
Utilizing low-flow water fixtures
Striving to divert 90% of our waste from landfills
And more!
Through our certification process, we have implemented sustainable practices to create a healthier environment our planet. We are now a proud member of the California Green Business Network! #greenbusiness #shopgreen

So flattered to be featured in the “Inspire Me” column of Bay New Service.
“Davia enjoys the unofficial title she shares with her sister: "It's cool to be a CEO!", she said, quickly adding that their mother is the big boss as Sustainabar's chief operating officer.” LOL.
It’s not the Ritz-Carlton. The remote cabin my family has rented in South Lake Tahoe for the past 10 years is small, buggy, mouse-infested and surrounded by dirt. There’s no turndown service – there’s not even cellphone or internet service. Amenities include a river, beavers that emerge at sundown and an overwhelming sense of peace.
Now our little piece of paradise is threatened by the massive Caldor fire as the entire Tahoe region becomes the latest flashpoint in the global climate crisis. Years of drought and rising temperatures have created California’s worst fire season on record.
